Everyone is banking off domains.. If your domain isn’t worth a ton today, their quickly getting picked up so fast and with the wide expansion of the Internet.. It’ll be good within a few years and at $9 or so a year… It will never hurt your wallet.
How to spot a trend?
I’m gonna use one of my past experiences for this one. I was watching the TV show Ali-G on HBO a few years ago — on this one episode Ali-G dresses up as one of his characters Borat and sings a song.. The song was called “Throw the Jew down the well” also the main words of the song, he gets people in the bar to sing along with him. The song was completely improvised and the people in the bar just started dancing and singing along.. I knew this was gonna be talked about a lot during the next few weeks because Ali-G/Borat was just becoming mainstream (before the movie and all). I quickly ran to my computer, before the song was even over and registered: ThrowTheJewDownTheWell.com — now thats a LONG DOMAIN.. But if that’s what everyone is typing into Google.. your gonna be the #1 spot. And yes I was.. I got around 1,000,000 uniques in 72 hours. Linked by big sites like collegehumor.com.. even mentioned on TechTV (before it became G4).
I put ads on the website and made a few thousand dollars then sold the domain as the traffic started slipping.
Now that my friend.. is banking of trends. Use this knowledge to your advantage. This morning I just grabbed myself a bunch of iPhone / iPod Touch Flash related domains due to the announcement that Adobe and Apple are working together to bring Flash to the iPhone & iPod Touch.
